Launched 8/29/09 I will soon be creating a website dedicated to spreading awarness of Domestic Abuse. As most of you know Rickey Lost his life trying to help a friend leave a bad situation. It is so important to be aware of how serious these situations can be. It was only days before these tragic events that I called Rickey to come hang out with me. It was my day off and I hadnt seen him in about 2 months, it happened to be his day off as well. He told me "Im helping a friend look for apartments, Do you mind if she comes to?" Thats fine, bring her over, I told him. They showed up about an hour later. She seemed like a sweet girl, very nice. They both told me about how she was trying to leave an abusive situation. She had plans to get her own apartment and provide a safe home for her and her two children, and Rickey was helping her do that. Her phone kept ringing ( it was her boyfriend) as she stepped outside to answer her phone Rickey filled me in. He looked me dead in the eyes and said "Katie, This guy is F*cking crazy". Looking back I wish I would have had an instinct or an intuition that would have helped prevent the outcome of what happened. I know there was nothing I could have done but I do feel an obligation to spread awareness. There may never be any justice for my best friend but his name and spirit will live on forever. It will take some time to create the site but when it is done I will post the link. Please post your comments if you have any thoughts or ideas.
Rickey Bifford was known and loved by many people. He had a variety of nicknames, whether you called him Rickey, Rick, R2D2, Slickrick, Biff, Or my personal favorite the Biffmaster, we all had our own special relationship with him. Funny, Kind, Free spirited and with dreams and aspirations that soared as high as the clouds, That was Rickey. He was and is loved by so many people and will live in our hearts forever.
